Hernia Surgery And Erection Problem

A hernia is observed or felt when an organ or tissue protrudes through a weak muscular area within the body, usually the abdominal wall.

A hernia may indirectly impair a man’s sexual function, as it generally does affect sexual organs or the nerves associated with the abdomen. The disorder or disease may show up in terms of erectile function, intercourse function, sexual desire, overall satisfaction, and orgasm satisfaction.

Abdomen

Most of the physiological, behavioral, and psychological reactions which accompany sexual intercourse are mediated by a complex mechanism, involving peripheral nerves of the lower abdomen. The abdomen is the central part of the body settled above the genitals and below the chest. It contains the stomach, intestines, liver, spleen, and pancreas. The pain or pleasure executed in the sexual organs would be transferred up to the abdomen first. Vice versa, the sexual stimulations generated through nerves should reach the sex organs through the abdomen. The abdomen is the support and stance to sexual stamina.

The disorder in the abdomen may affect the following in relation to sexual and erectile function.

Frequency of achieving erections during sexual activity.

Erections are hard enough for penetration after sexual stimulation.

Frequency of penetration.

Frequency of maintaining an erection after penetration.

Ability to maintain an erection until completion of intercourse.

Rate of confidence to achieve and maintain erections.

Hernia

A hernia is a disease or disorder caused when an internal organ or other body part shapes out through a weak spot in the surrounding area. It occurs when an internal organ or other body part extends beyond or above the limiting surface through the wall of muscle or tissue that normally surrounds it. The major symptom is the bulging of the affected area. This protrusion is extremely painful on gradual prolongation.

Types of Hernia

Groin Hernia: A condition occurs when the abdominal content like fat or part of the intestine or pelvic organs protrudes through the muscles or tissue of the lower abdomen.

Umbilical Hernia: A condition with soft swelling or bulge near the navel caused by excessive pressure on the abdomen that causes the intestines to bulge through the weakened abdominal wall. This is observed more in infants than adults.

Femoral hernia: The protrusion condition occurring more in women through the muscles surrounding organs settled between the legs and the lower abdomen.

Inguinal hernia: The enlargement of the muscles or tissues covering the inguinal canal which is the passageway for the spermatic cord and blood vessels leading to the testicles.

Abdominal Hernia: The bulging of the muscles or tissues subjected to the abdominal cavity. This is the most occurring hernia in both men and women. However, most of the different types of hernias are almost all linked to the abdomen, either lower abdomen or upper abdomen, or center of the abdomen.

Hernia surgery repairs sexual dysfunction

Open hernia repair

Even though hernia does not bring direct sexual problems or does directly involve sexual intercourse, there is an effective impact on the hernia disorder during sexual intercourse. One cannot enjoy sex with a problem in the body. The mind concentrates more on the pain than the pleasure exhibited through sexual intercourse.

Pain is a feeling that the body has to bear. The body stimulates a lot of energy in order to bear the pain. At the same time, sexual activity or erectile function does need enough energy which is not provided by the body due to its existence with the pain presented by hernia.

The protrude elevated at a certain point in the body does not allow the body to flip comfortably which is the most mandatory during sexual intercourse.

Thus the removal of the hernia or repairing abdominal muscles is an immediate need to enjoy sexual intercourse. The repair is only possible with surgery. Thus, the surgery would only work positively to the sexual function of the body.

Open hernia repair is the surgery concentrated on an incision, or cut, to be made in the groin. The first of its aim is to identify the hernia bug containing the bulging intestine. The surgeon then pushes the hernia back into the abdomen and strengthens the abdominal wall with stitches or synthetic mesh. This repair would only benefit the action of sexual organs in the future.

Inguinal hernia surgery

Inguinal hernia is the enlargement of the muscles or tissues covering the inguinal canal which is the passageway for the spermatic cord and blood vessels leading to the testicles. This condition embarrasses the sexual hormonal stimulation processed through the body. Thereby, the repair of the inguinal hernia would only positively affect the sexual system in the body.

Inguinal hernia surgery positively affects sexual functions, relieving the pain and discomfort associated with the preoperative period. The operation is performed in the inguinal region, in close proximity to the testicular structures and nerves which are important for sexual function

The improvement in various sexual parameters like erection, frequency of erection, duration of the sexual activity, etc in addition to the advantages of hernia removal and the presence of no significant postoperative complications indicates that this surgery is useful and safe.

Take Away

Postoperative sexual function is an important factor to consider because sex is the basic Instinct of the human being and the body stimulations related to sex is subsequently observed in the human ease and disease if any.
